Fire on Indian Creek Road

On 6/28/2017 at 3:14 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office received a call about an out of control fire.  A home owner was conducting a controlled burn in a trash barrel when the winds picked up and the fire spread.The fire traveled across the owner’s property, threatening structures and spread to an adjoining property engulfed a nearby residence. 

Grape Creek VFD, Water Valley VFD and Carlsbad Fire VFD arrived on scene and battled the blaze.  The Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office Deputies evacuated the area of W. Indian Creek and Class Court streets. 

Once the Fire Departments had the fire contained, residence were allowed to return to their homes.  No injuries were reported and the occupants of the burned residence were able to exit the home before the structure became engulfed. 

This fire was a controlled burn which became out of hand, not a prescribed burn.  In order to have a prescribed burn a person must have permission from the Commissioners Court and must have a burn plan in place.
