PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE

06/25/2019

On June 23, 2019 during the early morning hours a pair of thieves targeted a pickup in the northwest side of Tom Green County. Their goal was to burglarize and or steal the motor vehicle. Exterior surveillance footage revealed what appeared to be one male and one female attempting to gain entry to the vehicle. CAUTION: It appears that the male subject is armed with a handgun. EXTREME CAUTION should be exercised if confronting these suspects.

The Tom Green County Sheriff Office has seen an increase in auto thefts and theft from vehicles:

Theft from a vehicle is a crime of opportunity which can be prevented if you always remember to remove all valuables from your vehicle. Thieves are targeting items left in your vehicle such as: firearms, portable GPS units, cell phones, iPods and iPads, laptop computers, packages, jewelry, and purses or wallets. If you have a work truck, make sure to secure all tools. You might consider a video surveillance system to help monitor your vehicles when they are parked outside your garage.

You also have the power to reduce the chance that your auto will be stolen by locking your vehicle at all times when not in use. Additionally, always try to park your vehicle in the garage if you have one. When parking your vehicle, look for a parking spot in a well-lighted and well-traveled location.

As always, be vigilant and watch for persons looking in vehicles and checking for open doors.

Our investigation revealed a common theme; most if not all of the vehicles that were entered and stolen were unlocked. We urge our residents to lock their cars, remove the keys and valuables. Don’t be an easy target for these suspects.

Anyone with information about these persons should contact the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office at 325-655-8111.
