Date Posted: 08/15/2025

On Friday August 15th, 2025 at about 3:13 pm, Tom Green County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to a call to assist Homeland Security Investigators with the service of a warrant in the 2600 block of O'Bryan Lane in San Angelo. The suspect, later identified as Meren Ed Thompson, 54 YOA, of Bradenton, Florida, was being sought by HSI and was found to be wanted on a Tom Green County felony warrant for Possession of a Controlled Substance. When approached, the suspect attempted to evade officers and almost ran over a federal agent with his vehicle. A pursuit ensued through the northern portion of San Angelo involving multiple agencies.

The pursuit concluded when DPS Troopers disabled the suspect vehicle using a tactical vehicle intervention in the 1900 block of North Bryant. The suspect then attempted to evade on foot and was stopped after being impacted by less lethal impact rounds and tased by Deputies. After being medically evaluated, the suspect was booked into the Tom Green County Jail for the original warrant. Additionally, he was charged with another felony count of Possession of a Controlled Substance PG1, and Evading Arrest/Detention.

This investigation remains active, and additional charges are likely.

The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the San Angelo Police Department, the Department of Homeland Security, the San Angelo Fire Department, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
